Braces work well to straighten teeth, but sometimes they don’t always give you the beautiful smile you were hoping for. Fortunately, there are ways to touch-up your appearance after braces so that you’ll be delighted with the results.

Gum Graft

Braces can make it harder to keep your teeth clean and healthy. As a result, gum disease is more common among people who have braces, especially adults with braces. Minor forms of gum disease may just cause swelling, redness, and discomfort during orthodontic treatment, but more serious gum disease can have lasting effects. Receding gums sometimes occurs with orthodontic treatment, leaving your teeth looking unattractive because of exposed roots or black triangles around teeth.

Fortunately, with a gum graft, we can restore the healthy appearance and position of your gums. We can close black triangles and cover the tooth roots that not only look unattractive, they cause sensitivity.

Teeth Whitening

Another problem related to hygiene challenges during orthodontic care is tooth discoloration or white lesions. Both problems can be corrected with teeth whitening.

Teeth whitening can remove stains that have accumulated on your teeth so that they’ll look brighter and whiter.

White lesions are a different problem: they’re actually the beginnings of tooth decay, demineralized regions of the teeth. They won’t necessarily become anything more than cosmetic problems, however. By whitening your teeth, these whiter areas will blend in nicely, restoring the attractive appearance of your teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Sometimes orthodontics reveals problems you might not have noticed before. You may realize, for example, that you are unhappy with the shape and size of your teeth. Before braces you thought the problem was just that your teeth were crooked. But now that you see them together, you realize the problem is also the shape and size of your teeth.

Fortunately, porcelain veneers are able to reshape your teeth. You can get teeth that aren’t just straight, they’re nicely sized and balanced. Porcelain veneers can also help if your teeth became chipped while they were crooked, or if white lesions don’t respond to whitening. And they can close black triangles around your teeth, too.

Don’t Give up on the Smile of Your Dreams

We understand the disappointment that comes from not getting the results you wanted from orthodontic treatment. But that doesn’t mean you should give up on achieving the smile you desire. Instead, think of braces as just the first leg of the journey to your ultimate destination: a smile you love and can feel proud about. And now that the first leg is complete, it’s time to decide what’s next.
